Suddenly stopped working...

Postby mickybooth » Wed Oct 08, 2008 3:11 pm

Hi,

I've had my X2040 for some time, working well on Vista x64. Then suddenly I just get 2 dark lines across the display and nothing else (backlight on with 2 lines of darker boxes). I've tried various drivers and Pertelian versions without any joy.

Can someone give me a clue as to the correct install procedure to get this thing back to life!

Up until this point it's been working great, no idea what's going on.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Mickybooth,
Having the two lines across the display (I'm assuming it's across lines 1 and 3) is a good sign. That means that the display is initialized and awaiting instruction from the Pertelian application, in short, your display itself seems to be working just fine.

There is no precedent that a display just suddenly stops working as you've described. Only in extremely rare cases does something happen to the physical display and cause it not to work after a long history of functioning properly.

Have you made any changes to your system lately?
Have you changed how Pertelian is installed on your machine (ie are you using a HUB)?
Have you made any changes to Vista?
Have you installed any Vista system files recently?

It sounds to me like this has something to do with COM port settings. I know this might be a silly question but did you make sure that when you start Pertelian, in the "General Settings" tab, that the "Connect" button is pressed? If so, the button should actually read "Disconnect" and should be grayed out.

Other than reinstalling Pertelian, try to actually uninstall Pertelian and do a fresh reinstall from our latest build.

Also, just to make sure, could you try to install Pertelian on another system? Although unlikely, having Pertelian run on another system will at least show that the unit wasn't somehow damaged. Even though the type of damaged would have to have been quite specific for this issue to occur, it's always possible.
