x2040 stopped working

Postby revaaron » Tue Sep 23, 2008 3:38 am

I've been using it as a clock for my radio station (also shows online stats for the radio station) and keeps the online content and FM content in sync.

It's been running 95% of the time for about a year. At 9:47am on sunday, the screen when blank. All it does it light up and there are faint blocks but no text. I installed the drivers on another PC and it did the same thing.
Any ideas?

It's not likely that the screens were damaged by having them on for such a long period of time since our Pertelians have run basically non-stop for much longer than that.

To have the screen blank out suddenly is very strange. Did you notice the text starting to fade or did the screen just plum go blank?

My guess is the LCD is suffering from temporary burn in. After leaving it off for a little while, have you tried running it again?

I'll forward this question to George to get his input.

Hello revaaron,

I just got back from speaking with George about this issue. Pertelian is functionally tested during production and we see a very low failure rate. Those that do pass are generally sound, working for years on end without any hitch. A unit going bad suddenly after a year is extremely rare, in fact, it's the very first time we've seen this happen.

It's tough for us to speculate but perhaps the unit was damaged during operation. Water, pulling on the USB cable too hard, dropping the unit, or a myriad of other events could have ruined the logic within. This isn't a conclusion on our end, merely the only working theory. Going over the data, including our own long term tests and customer histories, there should be next to zero chance of the logic failing on its own for apparently no reason.

Our only other possible idea is the use of a hub. Do you plug Pertelian in a hub or directly to the machine? If a hub is used, I would recommend plugging the unit directly in the machine to see what happens.

Please let me know if this helps at all.
